Note: These marks indicate that the Diamond FirePort 875 and the Adaptec
AHA2940UW offer equal performance on a single drive test. Each of these
cards has strengths and weaknesses independent of performance. The Adaptec
card has a more complete BIOS setup low level format. The Diamond card
requires a FD for various utilities. In this particular configuration the
Adaptec card works fine at 75 MHz. However, at 83 MHz, I would bet on the
Symbios based FirePort. November 1, 1997. Note: I retested
these controllers a few months later. At this time the Adaptec 2940UW
showed a distinct advantage (Winbench97).
At this time I can't explain these conflicting results.
