Job Description

Due date: Tuesday, February 4, 2003

The first part of the ‘Dream Job’ assignment is to identify a company you would like to work for after you graduate. You need to use a published job advertisement that appeared in the trade press or in general publications. To help you in your search, here are some sources for job advertisements in telecommunications, broadcasting and new technology. You may want to start your search with Broadcasting & Cable, a trade publication, that regularly features job advertisements. Current issues of this magazine are available on 3rd Floor Paterno Library in the Business Periodicals Area. There are also many web-sites that list job advertisements. Some are general sites that list jobs in a wide variety of fields. Others are more specialized.

Some of you may already have a company or a 'dream job' in mind. You will still need to locate a job advertisement in that company for a job that fits your education and experience. If you cannot find a job advertisement in this company, look for similar jobs in your company's competitors. For example, if your 'dream job' is to work at the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, but the station has no advertised jobs at present, look for similar positions at the CBS or ABC affilates in the same city. Though this may not give you information about your real dream job, it will still give you valuable practice researching companies and job opportunities.

The job advertisement you turn in must clearly identify a job title, a brief job description, and the employer by name (note that some web-sites name only the recruiting agency and not the employer, these ads will not be acceptable). Please remember to keep a copy of your job advertisement for your records. The copy you turn in to me will NOT be returned.
