Inorganic CO2 is incorporated into organic carbon skeletons
via photosynthesis in plants. Sucrose and starch contribute to the hexose
phosphate pools, whose components can be used to feed carbon to glycolysis and the
pentose phosphate pathway. Both pathways can act independently or
synergistically in both the plastids and cytosol.
