Dr. Jeffrey K. Pinto is the Samuel A. and Elizabeth B. Breene Fellow and Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at Penn State Erie. His major research focus has been in the areas of Project Management, Information System Implementation, and the Diffusion of Innovations in Organizations. In addition to his faculty appointment at Penn State, he holds the title of Research Scientist with the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) through the Department of Spatial Information Science and Engineering at the University of Maine.

Professor Pinto is the author or editor of ten books and over 100 scientific papers that have appeared in a variety of academic and practitioner journals, books, conference proceedings, and technical reports. He has published widely in such journals as Management Science, Sloan Management Review, Journal of Management, Interfaces, Journal of Management Studies, Applied Psychological Measurement, Project Management Journal, Educational and Psychological Measurement, and the Journal of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association. He is also a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and has served as keynote speaker and as a member of organizing committees for a number of international conferences. Dr. Pinto served as Editor of the Project Management Journal from 1990 to 1996. He sits on the editorial review boards or serves as an ad hoc reviewer for a number of professional journals, including IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Management Studies, and Project Management Journal.

He received the Distinguished Contribution Award from the Project Management Institute in 1997 for outstanding service to the project management profession and was nominated for their inaugural David I. Cleland Literature Award in 1999 for his edited book, The Project Management Institute Project Management Handbook. In addition, his article, "Project Leadership: A Question of Timing," co-authored with Dr. Peg Thoms, received the Paper of the Year award for 1999 from the Project Management Journal. Dr. Pinto was also honored in 1997 with the Behrend College Council of Fellows Award for Research at Penn State Erie. His commitment to undergraduate teaching has also been recognized with his 1998 nomination for the Behrend College Excellence in Advising Award at Penn State Erie.

Dr. Pinto has consulted widely with a number of firms, both domestic and international, on a variety of topics, including information system implementation, organization development, project management, leadership, and conflict resolution. A partial list of his consulting clients includes: General Electric Company, Aker Rauma Offshore Oy (Finland), GKN Plc. (England), Zurn Corporation, PPG Industries, Westinghouse Corporation, Repola Oy (Finland), Rhône-Poulenc Roher Pharmaceutical Co., Erie Insurance Group, Hamot Health Systems, and Erie Press, Inc.

Dr. Pinto’s work has been translated into French, Dutch, German, Finnish, and Spanish, among other languages. His most recent books, Successful Information System Implementation: The Human Side, 2nd Edition (with Dr. Ido Millet) and Essentials of Project Control Systems (edited with Dr. Jeffrey Trailer) are due to be published in 1999. In addition, he is working with Drs. David Cleland and Dennis Slevin to organize the first annual Frontiers of Project Management Research 2000 conference scheduled for Paris, France in June of 2000.
