Ethical and Professional Responsibilities of Researchers

On Being a Scientist: Responsible Conduct in Research A web site devoted to developing in science students an understanding of what it means to be a scientist and an appreciation of the ethical responsibilities of scientists. It includes sections on the social foundation of science, science values, conflicts of interest, allocation of credit in research and publications, authorship practices, misconduct in science and how such misconduct is handled in the scientific community. The site also includes numerous case histories which can be used to initiate discussions of ethical issues in science.

Material Safety Data Sheets This page maintained by the University of Kansas contains links to a number of sites from which MSDS information about chemicals can be downloaded directly.

 

Online Biological Safety Manual This web site maintained by the University of Mississippi, contains an Online Biosafety Manual with sections of Biological Safety, Radiological Safety, Chemical Safety and Occupational Safety. Under Biological Safety are divisions related to Federal guidelines, Biological Laboratory Safety, Disposal of Biological Materials, Shipping of Biological Material, Recombinant DNA Procedures. Regulations for working with Human Blood, Fluids and Tissues, Biohazardous organisms and descriptions of Biosafety 1 through 4 facilities. The site contains recommendations forTraining in Safety Procedures as well as a description of the University of Mississippi's "Institutional Biosafety Committee", which might serve as a model upon which other such committees could be based.
