| Welcome to my home page. Since May of 2005 I've worked as Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising and Alumni Relations in Penn State's Department of Geography. For most of the past decade, I've been working on a doctorate in geography at Penn State. My research interests include geography education/geographies of education, service learning and public scholarship, relationships between scholarly and popular conceptions of geography, and women's roles in the history of geography. I'm also doing a research project on geography and homeschooling for GENIP, reviewing teaching resources for AP Human Geography and National Geographic Xpeditions, and recently did some work with the New Jersey Charter Public Schools Association. I
serve as Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Geographic Bee, which took place this
year on March 30 at Shippensburg
University, and a
director/newsletter editor of the Association of American Geographers' History of Geography
Specialty Group. I'm also a past member of the National Council for Geographic Education's
Publications & Products Committee and co-edit the Women
in Geography Education calendar. I
have a B.A. in Spanish
from Penn State, an M.A. in geography from the University
of Texas at Austin, and I've worked in the magazine research,
communications, and geography education divisions of the National
Geographic Society. More recently, I
spent three years working as Coordinator/Assistant Coordinator of
Student Programs and Service Learning for Penn State's Schreyer Honors College. During Spring 2005, I taught 2
classes at Community
College of Philadelphia: Introduction to
Geography and World Regional
Geography. I'm
an affiliate
of Penn State's Public
Scholarship Associates and served as Conference
Coordinator for the 2003 "Blueprint for the Public Scholarship of Service
Learning" Summit. I'm a past
member of the Commission
for Women and the College of the Liberal Arts
Alumni Society Board of Directors. For
