Question Answer
Where can I get the Internship Agreement Form?

Mr. Nitterright's website or ANGEL.

What work/projects are acceptable for the summer internship program? Internships are sought in the areas of applied design, process development, plant engineering, etc., which hold the student accountable for the outcome.  Tasks such as drafting and laboratory technician support will not be acceptable for the baccalaureate internship experience.  Also, problem solving activities in which the student uses their academic experiences from the MET program are acceptable.
How is my grade determined? See the syllabus for the course.
Who do I contact about the internship for answering my questions or submitting my paperwork? See Mr. Nitterright.
Does the internship need to be a paid internship? No
When is the last day to enroll in the MET495 course? The second Friday in June.
What is the process for enrolling in the MET495 course before the spring semester ends? 1. Complete the Internship Agreement Form (IAF) Worksheet with your employer.  The form can be obtained from Mr. Nitterright's website.  You should discuss with your employer if there will be any confidentiality issues with presenting the work you perform with faculty.  If there will be an issue, contact Mr. Nitterright immediately to see if there is a solution.

2. Once the form is completed, click on the "Sign-Up for a 2009 Summer Internship."  Enter the information and submit.

3. You will receive emails letting you know the status of your proposed IAF.

4. If your IAF is approved by both Mr. Nitterright and Mr. Johnson, you will be automatically enrolled in the course.  Once you receive confirmation that you are enrolled you will need to pay for the course as a summer course.

What do I do if my internship employer has stated that I need to sign a confidentiality agreement or states that I am not permitted to share the work I completed during my internship? First, you need to discuss this issue with Mr. Nitterright immediately upon finding out there is or maybe a confidentiality issue.  We can work with you and your employer to overcome the issue.

What are the requirements of my internship  employer? They have 3 main responsibilities: sign the internship agreement form, challenge the student with engineering work or engineering related work, and complete the student evaluation at the end of the internship.
Do I have to pay for the course as a summer course or as a fall course? You need to pay for the course as a summer course and not as a fall course.  You will not receive a grade or be allowed to graduate until the payment has been received for the summer course.
Are there any changes to MET495 coming up in the summer of 2009? YES!  Students will no longer be required to write a paper; however, students will give an oral presentation to MET faculty at the start of the fall semester.  This will require that students receive a "DF" grade.  The "DF" grade is a deferred grade that will disappear and change to the grade the student earns after their presentation.
