Port side looking aft from the bow. The forward hatch is a simple
box type arrangement with a lexan cover for letting light down below.
It is held open with a simple stick, and held immobile (or closed) by light
line tied off below. There is a screen in the recess in the deck,
allowing the hatch to remain in this position ninety five percent of the
time (even while sailing).
The hull is double planked (inner layer 3/8" on a diagonal, outer layer
5/8" run for and aft). A number of people have been surprised that
the hull is wood. Most folk assume that only a fiberglass boat will
have nice looking topsides. The topsides do not have a gloss finish,
but rather a matte finish produced by mixing equal amounts of high build
under coater with semi gloss paint. The topsides need repainted once
every four years or so.
