Launch Day
GJOA hangs in the haul out well overnight to allow her to take up. Notice the two sump pumps running. If you take the time to use Seam Slick in all the seams, she will stay virtually dry and she doesn’t have to hang. The problem with that concept is that the planks all swell and push the Seam Slick out from between the planks, leaving the bottom with something that is less than smooth. It seems far better to let her swell up in the slings overnight and have a relatively smooth bottom. I suppose that I could use Seam Slick in the seams that have the largest gaps rather than doing the entire bottom to speed up the launch process, but usually there is no line of boats waiting to go in the water in early to mid April.
If she is lowered any more than shown, the pumps can’t keep up and you will drown the engine.
