his course will survey the
development of the legends of Arthur
and his court, from their beginnings in medieval Europe to their modern
adaptations, with special emphasis on the quest of the Holy Grail. We
will look at the ever-changing legend throughout history by comparing
central figures and themes in the different works. Throughout, we
will ask why and how the stories of Arthur, his knights, and the quest
continue to occupy such and important space in the cultural
imaginations of Western and Eastern, medieval and modern literatures.
