Resources: Terrain methods instructions prepared by students in Applied Cartographic Design course, Spring 2011. This site is still under construction. National Mapping Expertise Exchange promotes innovation and excellence in national mapping by building connections among mapmakers, educators, researchers, and software developers at academic, commercial, and governmental organizations. This initiative is part of my work as Director of the Gould Center in the Department of Geography at Penn State and my Affiliate Faculty status with CEGIS-USGS. <NationalMapping.us> ScaleMaster resources include articles, presentations, posters, and interactive tools on multiscale mapping plus a do-it-yourself ScaleMaster Excel file available for download. ScaleMaster is a structured diagram for organizing multi-scale mapping using multiple databases and design, selection, and generalization decisions. <ScaleMaster.org>. Available from ESRI Press: Designed Maps: A Sourcebook for GIS Users (2008) and Designing Better Maps: A Guide for GIS Users (2005). Census Atlas of the United States (2009) is the first comprehensive atlas of population and housing produced by the Census Bureau since the 1920s. Trudy Suchan is first author and project leader, and I'm included in the author set. Chapters in PDF for the large-format publication (300 pages, 800 maps) are online.
