Mice in This House!
"There are mice in this house," I heard him cry
As if it were bad news. Really! Some folks
Live for years without knowing. We tell jokes
About their cats and traps. We laugh and try
To find ingenious places no one pokes
Their noses into for our tidy nests.
We don't eat much, and yet they call us pests.
We never steal their homes or shoes or cloaks.
Well, anyway, we just wear furry vests
To frolic in the moonlight. Life is short,
They say. I hate to worry. I cavort
On principle. Our happiness attests
