Minutes from the February Meeting
The February Meeting
The
Meeting was called to order at
Members who arrived early participated in the
sale of items from Will Coder’s
workshop. Diana Coder asked that
they be sold to and used by club members. She also requested that the money go
to the SCRC Will Coder Memorial fund.

2. The Treasurer’s report was read by Al Jones and approved by the members.
Al expects that $650 will be added to the treasury from the Will Coder Memorial
fund. Al reminded those in attendance of their 2007 club dues. Only 27 members
have paid their 2007 dues so far. Please don’t delay! This is Important!
3. Old business –
* The January 20th banquet hosted 39
people. Our thanks to George
Mock and to all who helped to pull this event together. The food was
great and we had a very enjoyable evening.
* Curt briefed us on the January 28th
Spikes fan appreciation day at
Curt,
Ron, Spike, and Bernie
* Al
Jones read his SCRC Bylaws revision/clean-up proposals which were
discussed, revised and approved. Some of the changes include:
Deleting the section on the Land Acquisition fund.
Allowing the newsletter editor to use e-mail as an
acceptable method of distribution.
Observing all club laws, instead of “enforcing”
them.
Secretary to provide membership with the bylaws by
the April meeting.
Transmitter
frequency flags will be encouraged but not required.
4. New Business –
* Al Jones advised us of a “thank you” letter received for our
contribution to the American Cancer Society.
* A motion was made and approved to
name this year’s air show in honor of Will
Coder. Al Jones advised us that
some of Will’s models will be offered for sale to SCRC members and suggested that
we fly several of them at the show. The sale of these models will likely take
place at one of our Fun Flys.
* Curt showed a draft of an AMA Certificate honoring Diana Coder for her many contributions
to SCRC over the years. The cost of the framed document is $25. She would also
be offered an honorary lifetime associate SCRC membership. The motion was
passed by membership.
* After some discussion, motions were
made and approved for target dates for this season’s events:
SCRC’s
“Open” Fun Fly –
SCRC’s
“Members” Fun Fly / Picnic -
SCRC’s Air Show –
* Al Niessner suggested that we change our AMA Leader Club magazine
subscription to “Flying Models”, replacing “Model Airplane News”. Membership
generally agreed that MAN’s content does not include
a sufficient number of ‘building” articles. A motion was made and passed.
* Al Jones advised that our AMA Leader Club application was done for
2007. Also, the motion to continue our AMA insurance to protect the landowner,
for a $60.00 premium payment, was approved.
* Ron Angle advised of an upcoming indoor Fun Fly (the Keystone
Indoor Electric Fly) in the
* The date for the big CPAA R/C Flea

5. Program – No program
6. Show and Tell
* Henry Margusity showed his C-160 Transall
powered by twin GMS .25 glow engines. This model by Will Hobby features a
fiberglass fuselage, overall light weight and great looks. Nice job Henry. Can’t wait to see this one fly.

7. Curt
Buergin won the 50/50 and split $24.00 with the club.

My latest attempt
I’ve been working on a slope soaring glider
of my own design. The idea is for it to be cheap, simple, and DURABLE. It’s a
swept back flying wing design somewhat like a Zagi, but with no taper in the
wing. I cut foam cores and embedded a full depth plywood spar in them. The
wings are sheeted with cheap poster board from Wal-Mart ($.57 a sheet)! I used
red on top and yellow on the bottom to help me keep track of which way is up!
The wing is rubber banded to the fuselage, so it can pop off in the inevitable
cartwheel landings. Now here is the durable part: The fuselage is a profile
type made of ½” thick birch plywood! It will NOT break! The radio battery and
receiver will be strapped to the profile fuse, and each wing panel will have a
mini servo for the elevons, using mixing in the transmitter. Heavy?
Not bad, actually. The whole airframe weighs 16 oz. Radio and finish will add
about 6 more ounces. Wingspan is 46”

Here
it is in my workshop.
That’s all for now. Spring is coming!
