Minutes from the February Meeting

The July Meeting

-The February Meeting-

1.  Meeting minutes were approved from last Meeting held 1-10-06.

2.  Treasures report was submitted. Report was approved.

3.  Old Business – Winter banquet wrap-up. Thanks to all those who helped to make the banquet a very enjoyable time.

New Site Acquisition – A motion was made to make the Garbrick site as our official site for now. It was recommended the committee continue to search for another site closer to the State College area. Motion was approved.

Al Jones proposed to develop a plan to move and setup the new field at the Garbrick site. Motion was approved. In the meantime, those flying at the field must have another person with you to act as a spotter for private aircraft coming and going.

Al Jones contacted 6 RC clubs who fly at airports to provide us with a list of problems flying at private airports. The two important points were:

1.  Watching for full scale Airplanes.

2.  Relationship with the owner of the field.

A motion was made to end our flying at the old field on February 28th. Motion was approved.

A motion was made to write an article about our moving experience to the AMA magazine. Motion was approved.

Float Fly update – Sayers dam is prohibited to allow RC planes to fly so the Float Fly is put on the back burner for now.

4.  New Business – Motion was made to reimburse Sam for printing costs (toner cartridge). Motion was approved.

5.  Program – Will Coder showed us how to use Monokote covering. Will applies a coat of Balsarite on the wood, and then perforates the solid balsa areas with a “Woodpecker”, which has several spiked wheels on a handle. All those tiny holes allow trapped air to escape when the iron is applied. Will uses a sock on his iron to prevent scratching of the Monokote. If you’ve seen Will’s planes, you know his methods work. His covering jobs are beautiful!

6.   Announcements – For Sale, Brad Fisher has a Hobby Lobby Telemaster airplane kit for $70.

7.   Show and Tell –

I brought my original design “Circuit Rider” powered glider. It uses a recycled two meter wing from a Pussycat glider I built in 1987. The fuselage is a cabin type with tail dragger landing gear. A geared Astro Flight Cobalt 05 motor and seven 1000mah NiCad’s power it. It weighs 36 oz. Covering is a mix of Ultracote and Monokote that I had laying around in my shop. In fact, the whole plane was built with materials I already had. Zero investment! I’ve flown it twice, and it works! Flight is slow and easy, and the glide is pretty good. All I need now are some thermals!

George Mock showed us his floats for an airplane.  They are made of 6mm Depron foam board that he bought at Wal-Mart. They are covered with light fiberglass cloth, and coated with acrylic varnish. They’re strong and feather light!   He has a link to the site that shows you how to size and build floats. Please contact George for the URL.

Nathaniel Rice split the 50/50 with the club.

  That’s all for now.
