‑The August Meeting‑
On August 5, several SCRC members gathered at the club field for the meeting. I drove my Sebring convertible with the top down, which is a rainstorm magnet, and sure enough, a monster thunderstorm arrived only minutes later! Time for plan B! Up went the top and windows, and the other guys piled into their vehicles for a nerve-wracking drive in a pouring rain to the Vo-Tech school, only to find the doors locked! So we met on the front porch. Seventeen members were in attendance.
New member Roy Long from Lewistown was introduced. Roy's father (also named Roy) is a well known R/C modeler.
George Gurney reported that our July Fun Fly/Picnic took in $56.
Woody Struble said that he had put small nails under the AMA card slots on our frequency board to keep cards from falling through the gaps.
Jeff Favuzza reported that he has fuel for sale to SCRC members.
Plans for our August 17 Air Show were firmed up. I got the announcer job again, and Al Jones offered to coordinate all the flights in the show. Many other members offered to help as well.
Al also handed out the latest revised copies of the club by-laws, and he has member packets for any new members who haven't received one.
George Gurney handed out copies of the newest membership list.
Woody Struble reported that he attended the Lebanon Jet Rally, and saw many turbine-powered jets and a turbine powered helicopter!
After the meeting, Jeff Favuzza won the 50-50 raffle for the first time since 1997! He took home an $8.00 prize which he planned to blow on Whoppers at the Bellefonte Burger King!
‑SCRC Air Show‑
We had a good day for our Air Show on August 17. It was warm with a moderate wind which changed direction from time to time. We had about 35 flights in the show and we were crash-free! Planes and helicopters of all types were flown to the delight of a large crowd. The Centre Daily Times had a photo of Sandy Jaffe and his scale Hughes 500 chopper in Monday's edition, and channel 10 (WTAJ) news featured about 30 seconds of voice-over video of planes flying, and an interview with Mark Wharton!
Some highlights of the show were:
There were many more, but I can't list them all. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this event a huge success. Special thanks to Al Jones, who coordinated the show and kept it moving smoothly, and Harry Anderson, who served up a ton of excellent burgers and hot dogs. I think this was one of our best shows, and it will be a hard act to follow next year!
‑Coming Event‑
September 12, 13, & 14 – The NEAT Fair in Downsville, NY. This is possibly the biggest gathering of electric powered models in the world, and is always a great time for all who attend.

Sandy Jaffe's scale Hughes 500 flying after the show. It features ducted fan tail control.
That's all for this month.
