‑The December Meeting‑
The December meeting was held on December 3, at 7:00PM with nineteen members present. President Jon Polay had a list of door prizes for the Winter Banquet. The prizes have an average value of $15.00 each with maybe one larger prize.
George Gurney reported that the SCRC logos have not arrived yet. When you buy a logo (after they arrive), George will give you a card which you can take to T's Custom Printing in State College to have the logo ironed on your T-shirt, jacket, or whatever garment you want. If you buy a shirt at T's, there is no charge for the ironing. If you take your own, there is a $1.00 charge.
We discussed the techniques for ironing covering material on solid sheet surfaces without getting wrinkles or bubbles. Several guys said to use the “Woodpecker” tool which punches many small holes in the balsa before covering. This releases trapped air, and allows the covering to stick better. Also, pushing down the heated covering with a cloth helps to adhere it.
We resumed last month's discussion regarding airplane restraining devices. It was pointed out that we already have a club rule requiring planes to be held by a device or a person during the starting procedure, so no new rule is needed.
Al Jones had info on the Winter Banquet. He had prices and menus from several local restaurants. We decided to go to the Elks Club and have the buffet menu like last year. I was instructed to send out a special newsletter with all the information. (I did it!) Please call in your reservations by January 2, 2003 to Avis Jones (237-2284). Thanks in advance to Al and Avis Jones for all their efforts in organizing this event! If you have any door prizes to donate, please bring them to the banquet.
Al Niessner had a good article on NiMH and Lithium batteries from SR Batteries to share. Click here to link to the article. There is also a link to SR Batteries on the SCRC web site.
And finally, against all odds, I won the 50-50 raffle for the second month in a row, taking home a $10.50 prize! Yesss!
