‑The September Meeting‑
The September meeting was held on Sept. 3, at 7:00pm at the flying field. There were nineteen members present, and we welcomed two new members, Ben Piper, and Glenn Drake.
SCRC President reported that George Gurney can get an iron-on SCRC logo for use on T-shirts, jackets, etc. All that is needed is for someone to use a transfer machine to put them on. A regular iron does not work well for this application. If anyone has access to one of these machines, please let us know.
Our August Air Show was a great success. The crowd was estimated at around 250 people, and we made a $126 profit for the club! Great job, everyone!
Jon Polay reported that he attended an air show in Sussex, NJ which featured model flying and full scale acts. Jon's trailer full of planes was featured on a local TV show the next day. The full scale show featured Matt Chapman's CAP doing wild aerobatics, Jimmy Franklin's jet powered Waco biplane (sounds crazy!), and many others.
Jon also mentioned that there will be a Fun Fly on September 21 & 22 near Muncy, PA, sponsored by Leeco Hobbies. Contact Jon (349-8882) for the exact location. (or click here for the directions on the Coming Events page)
Jon has purchased a new wind sock for the field. He will wait until next spring to install it. Thanks, Jon!
Will Coder reported that he will not be able to organize the door prizes for our Winter Banquet in 2003. He's a busy man. (Will has done an outstanding job with this task in the past! Thanks for all your work, Will!)
Jon Polay offered to handle the job this year.
The 50-50 raffle was won by Glenn Drake, a brand new member. He's off to a good start in SCRC!
‑Coming Events‑
September 28 & 29 Buzzard Field Fun Fly. I have not heard officially, but this is the weekend they always have it.
October 12 and 13 Wings of Williamsport Fun Fly. These guys put on a great event! Their field is along the river across Route 220 from the Harvest Moon Restaurant near Williamsport.
‑A NEAT Event‑
I went to the NEAT Fair in Downsville, NY last weekend. This is THE big electric model event in the East. It was great lots of aircraft, good weather, and a lot of fun! There were all kinds of planes there. Slow flyers, scale models, wildly aerobatic designs, out-of-sight-in-five-seconds gliders, and everything else you can think of. There were aerobatic helicopters making low inverted passes and hovering over the runway! The most interesting sight I saw was a couple of ornithopters. These craft fly by flapping their wings like a bird no propellers! They used rotating and tilting fan-shaped tails for control, and looked exactly like large birds in the air! Amazing!
I was kept busy selling my Aero-Vee motor mounts on Friday and Saturday. I was nearly sold out, so I took down my canopy and packed up all my stuff Saturday evening. It was a wise move because it rained on Sunday, and attendance and activity was low.
Gib Sanders and his son Mark were also there, representing SCRC. He flew his Mystery Man old timer with gull wing styling and drop-away landing (takeoff?) gear!
It was a great event, and all attending had a good time.

That's all for now. Let's enjoy the cooler Autumn weather and fly!
