State College Radio
Control Club Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 Meeting Minutes
Ron
Lueth called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.
No guests or new members in attendance.
·
The
minutes from the December 6th meeting were approved.
·
Treasurer’s
Report. Jon Guizar advised that the transfer of documents from Al Jones is
done. He advised that Al’s register report was in good order and moved to
accept it. Troy Dermota seconded the motion and the members voted to accept.
Jon stated that any member is welcome to audit the books if they so desire. Jon
expects to establish a PayPal account for new members or current members
wishing to pay their dues electronically. He advised the treasury balance and
his report was approved by members.

Old
business –
Website Hosting. Ron projected an
image of Todd Cook’s design for our new website home page. Todd requested
feedback from club members on color choices of the banner background. Members
seemed to prefer the light orange scheme as being different from most other RC
clubs. Todd advised that SCRC’s new site and the old site will run concurrently
until the new one is constructed. Troy Dermota expressed concern regarding
posting our meeting minutes publicly on the website. This led to a discussion
of how to present the minutes in the future and is something that will need to
be resolved at a later date.
2012 Winter Banquet. Saturday,
February 11th at Celebration Hall. Ron will send email
messages to members to confirm head count and entre preferences. Ron advised that
a projector will be available to play RC related videos and we will present
individual awards for questionable behavior as was done in past years. Jon
Guizar is helping to arrange some other activities and Ron suggested static
displays of models if anyone cares to bring one of their aircrafts.
New
“Application and Dues Renewal” form for 2012. Jon will send this form to
members by email. As discussed last month, the officers want to gather accurate
contact information. We also discussed reduced dues for junior members or
possibly offering a family membership. This would require changes to our
bylaws. Jon made a motion to establish a committee to address this. Motion
carried. Ron Lueth will chair the committee. Additional members are Troy
Dermota, Rob Krankel, Jon Guizar and John Werner.
Indoor Flying at OLV. Steve Boucher
advised that he obtained AMA memberships for his two children and wants them to
participate in our upcoming indoor event. He was willing to pay full club membership
for his kids but members advised him to just let them fly as guests for now
instead of joining.
·
New
business –
Elected Officers for 2012. Ron reviewed the
offices and pointed out that Jon Guizar is replacing Al Jones as Treasurer. Ron
also advised that we will need a committee to propose bylaw changes for 2012
and also a committee for events - the Fun Flys and the Air Show. We’re also
reviewing the responsibilities assigned to these offices to determine if there
should be any reassignments or shuffling of duties. That discussion was tabled
for the next meeting.
Appointed Officers for 2012. In addition to
Webmaster (Todd) Safety Officer (Hugh) and Field Marshall (Woody) we are
seeking volunteers for Safety Coordinator (a new position recommended by the
AMA), Event Coordinator (another new office) and Club Senior Trainer (AMA
recognized trainer). The trainer status is something that any AMA member can
obtain by submitting a form and paying a nominal fee. Jon Guizar will email
information and forms for the AMA Introductory Pilot Program to club members.
This should help with insurance coverage for the individual in the event of a
mishap and may also help to protect the club. If anyone is willing to help by
filling any of these appointed offices, please contact an SCRC officer.
·
Open
Floor Discussion –
Rob
Krankel requested ideas for programs for our monthly meetings and also for
volunteers to present these programs. If you can help out, please contact Rob.
Jon
Guizar is still planning to provide Membership Cards. This is an idea that we
discussed previously to help with frequency control and limit the possibilities
of club members losing their AMA cards. Jon will also send out Tax Filing
information to each member seeking feedback to help make final recommendations
regarding our club filing status changes.

Program
–
Rob
Krankel gave a presentation on spread spectrum technology and the possibilities
of getting interference on the 2.4 gigahertz band. He went over transmitter
antenna orientation and some of the best (and worst) practices as recommended
by the equipment manufacturers. Thanks to Rob for this very informative
program.
·
Show
and Tell –
Ron Lueth brought
along his latest flat foamy, an MX2 kitted by West Michigan Park Flyers. This
is a great looking little plane and Ron did a great job assembling the model.
It looks like it will be a very good flyer. For more information and
specifications, visit: http://wmparkflyers.com/MX2.aspx

The
motion to adjourn passed at 8:30 pm.

Submitted,
