State College Radio Control Club Tuesday, December 7th 2010 Meeting Minutes

Ron Lueth called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. John Biitikofer attended as a new Member. Welcome John!

·         The minutes from the November 2nd meeting were approved.

·         Treasurer’s report. Al Jones reported income from dues received. He advised the balance of SCRC’s savings account and his report was approved by membership.

·         Old business –

Field Search Committee. Ron advised that the John King property in Hublersburg was removed from the search effort. After repeated attempts to contact him, Mr. King has not returned messages. No other news on possible sites at this time.

Indoor Flying Season. Al Niessner advised an open date (Sunday, January 2nd from 1 to 3 pm) for indoor flying at the OLV gym.  Al advised that OLV is booked but there will be more open dates in March after basketball season. Al will secure the January 2nd date and Rob will obtain the AMA site insurance for OLV. Henry Margusity advised that Holuba Hall on the Penn State Campus may have an opening during the week of Christmas. Members decided to pursue this opportunity and Henry will advise.

Public Relations. George Gurney and Al Niessner will hold their final scheduled Delta Dart class at Radio Park Elementary School on December, 8th. Rob Krankle sent an e-mail message to the Nittany Mall suggesting February as a possible time to hold an RC exhibition there. He has not yet heard back from them.

SCRC Winter Banquet. Members voted hold the banquet at Celebration Hall (Hoag’s Catering). The Nittany Lion Inn and the Mt. Nittany Inn were also considered. Ron passed the Celebration Hall menu around and we selected the beef brisket and chicken cordon bleu entrées. We also picked glazed carrots, California medley vegetables, green beans with almonds, twice baked potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes. Vegetarian dishes are available for those who prefer them. With tax and gratuity included, we expect the per person price to be $27.00 per person.

There will be desert and a cash bar. We decided not to buy door prizes but there will be some items, donated by members, included in the drawing. Members can pay for themselves and guests at the January meeting but Al Jones actually prefers that they pay at the banquet. The date is Saturday, January 22nd at 6:00 pm for social hour, 7:00 for dinner. Celebration Hall is located at 2280 Commercial Boulevard, State College, PA.

·         New business –

Rob Krankel reported that SCRC has again been invited to participate in the Second Mile Leadership Institute model aviation program at the State College Ramada Inn on April 19th at 11:00 am. Please contact Rob if you can help out by offering advice to 10th graders or by conducting flight demos with small electric aircraft in the hotel atrium.

Al Jones made a motion to elect the slate of officers as proposed by the nomination committee last month.  Motion carried. SCRC officers for 2011 will be Ron Lueth (President), Ron Krankel (Vice President), Al Jones (Treasurer) and Daryl Allen (Secretary).

·         Coming Events -

o    Muncy Indoor Flying at the Sports Dome, December 15th, 2010, from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

o    Tailspin Hobbies Flea Market and RC Show, December 19th at 10:00 am. 1116 Gosser Street. West, Leechburg, PA.

·         Show and Tell –

Al Jones received a Dynam A-10 Warthog electric plane from Nitro Planes as a gift. Al advised members not to buy this model as his came with the wrong transmitter and ESC’s do not function. After contacting Nitro Planes, he has not been able to get the situation resolved so this is just a heads-up on the Dynam A-10 Warthog!

·          Program –

Jon Guizar brought his giant scale Matt Chapman Eagle 580. It is equipped with an Eagle Tree Systems flight data recorder.

Jon showed the features, advised which add-ons are available and explained how the system works. For this particular model, with its twin cylinder gasoline engine, Jon finds the cylinder head temperature feature the most useful. He monitors and records these operating temperatures.

·         The motion to adjourn passed at 8:30 pm.

.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daryl Allen, Secretary
