State College Radio Control Club Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Daryl Allen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. No guests or new members in attendance.

  1. The minutes from the June 2nd meeting were approved.

  1. Treasurer’s report. One new member paid dues since last meeting. George Gurney advised the balance of SCRC’s account and his report was approved by membership.

  1. Old business –

·         Field Search Committee. No new developments.

·         SCRC’s “Basics of Radio-Controlled Aircraft” training course for OLLI. Al Niessner advised that only three people registered so the classes have been cancelled.

·         Air Show committee. Todd passed around the sign-up sheet for participants. We discussed possible activities like an aerial limbo contest or a spot-landing event. We should ask Bernie if Nittany Line Hobbies would like to set up a booth. If not, we should check with other Hobby Shops. We went over some other air show details. Daryl and Ron will arrange an air show committee meeting soon (Daryl Allen, Ron Lueth, Todd Cook and Woody Struble).

·          The Relay for Life event on June 27th. Participants advised that the turnout for club members was good but we didn’t have many visitors. SCRC’s static displays and flying demos were first class. Al Niessner posted some great pictures and information on the RC Groups website. ·         SCRC’s Open Fun-Fly on Sunday, June 28th. Even with the clouds and drizzle, everyone had a great time and got in a lot of flying time due to the low wind conditions. Check out Sam Stitzer’s newsletter on SCRC’s website: http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/a/f/afn1/scrc/notice.shtml

  1. New business –

·         The Wings of Williamsport R/C Club’s 7th annual “Wings over Piper” event will take place August 7th through the 9th. This event is a lot of fun. Many amazing giant scale models to see, great flying and good vendor participation. For more information, visit: http://www.wingsoverpiper.com/

·         Reminder for SCRC’s Fun-Fly/Club Picnic on Sunday, July 19th.  See you all there at the field later this month!

·         Al Niessner provided some information regarding the recent Joe Nall Giant Scale Fly-in that took place near Greenville, South Carolina. The event featured five flight lines. The main flight line accommodated both 72 MHz and 2.4 GHz systems using standard frequency control. The other four flight lines allowed only 2.4 GHz systems. ·         Al Niessner advised that the Oak Hall Park project now has designated a sled-riding area. This is the area for which we had hopes of establishing a park flyer site.

·         Several members were approached at the field by a neighbor with noise complaints. Complaints seem to focus on SCRC’s hours of operation in general and flying on Sundays. We reviewed the noise related changes adopted last year in response to similar complaints. Ron Lueth has requested that he be made aware of such complaints and Jack Garbrick has requested that people with complaints be referred to him.

  1. Program – no program.

  1. Show and Tell –

·         Nathaniel Rice showed his trophy plaque for placing 17th in helicopter competition at Futaba’s International Extreme Flight event held at AMA headquarters on June 12th. Great Job, Nathaniel.

The motion to adjourn passed at 8:00 PM. Henry Margusity won the 50/50 drawing splitting $15.00 with the club.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daryl Allen, Secretary
