State College Radio Control Club Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Ron Lueth called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Mr. Tom Majewski was in attendance as a new member. Tom has a laser cutting business (thelasercutter.com). Chris Golembeski and his mom, Trish attended as guests. Chris is a teenager interested in expanding his involvement in the hobby. SCRC welcomes all new members and visitors!

  1. The minutes from the April 7th meeting were approved.

  1. Al Jones read the Treasurer’s report. Two new members paid their dues since the last meeting. The 2009 flying field rent was paid to Jack Garbrick. Jack generously lowered SCRC’s annual payment to $350 instead of the $500 that we usually pay. Al advised the balance of SCRC’s account and the Treasurer’s report was approved.

  1. Old business –

·         Field Search Committee. No new developments.

·         SCRC’s proposed basic R/C aircraft course for OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). Al Niessner had nothing new to report. We’re just waiting to hear if they receive sufficient interest.

·         Ron advised us of the AMA’s new membership drive. There are prizes to be won. For example, each winning club can receive $500 and a banner for their club. Ron has flyers from the AMA and A.J. Jaffe offered to hand them out at Nittany Line Hobbies. For more information, visit: http://www.modelaircraft.org/membershipdrive.aspx

·         Ron asked if everyone was still OK with the event dates that were set last month. Daryl Allen will attempt to post these events on the AMA website. Here are the dates:

Open Fun-Fly – Sunday, June 28th

“Relay for Life” at the Grange Fairgrounds. Static display and flight demonstrations - Saturday, June 27th

Member’s Fun-Fly / Club Picnic – Sunday, July 19th

SCRC Annual Air Show – Sunday, August 23rd

  1. New business –

·         Bob Grove rolled the entire airfield. Woody rolled the turf in the model aircraft area and will probably roll it again. Thank you Woody and Bob!

·         We recruited air show committee members. Ron Lueth will be chairman this year and he will call the food vendor to book the date. Todd Cook, Woody Struble and Daryl Allen will serve on the committee. Sam Stitzer agreed to be our M.C. again this year and Al Jones will help out with that task. Thanks to everyone for the help!

·         Ron reminded everyone that the June meeting (Tuesday, 6/2/09) will be held at the SCRC flying field.

  1. Program – no program.

  1. Show and Tell –

Tom Majewski gave us an overview of his laser cutting business. Tom cuts, engraves and etches a wide variety of materials. He can laser cut wood up to ¾” thick and cut plastic up to 3/8” thick. The material can be up to 36 inches wide and the maximum length is practically unlimited. Tom can use your cad drawings or work from various drawing file types. For more information, visit Tom’s impressive web site: http://thelasercutter.com/

The motion to adjourn passed at 7:40 PM. Woody Struble won the 50/50 drawing splitting $18.00 with the club.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daryl Allen, Secretary
