State College Radio Control Club Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Ron Lueth called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. No guests or new members were present.

·         The minutes from the October 6th meeting were approved.

  1. Treasurer’s report –

§  Filling in for Al Jones, George Gurney advised the balance of SCRC’s account and announced that he was accepting club dues for 2010. His report was approved by membership.

  1. Old business –

·         We discussed holding future meetings at the Our Lady of Victory School, the Central Pa. Institute of Science & Technology, the Hammond building and the American Legion. A.J. Jaffe’s motion to meet, beginning next month, in the gymnasium at Our Lady of Victory passed. The next meeting will begin at 7:00 pm and we can fly electric micro models after the meeting until 9:00 pm. Any member wishing to fly will pay $5.00 per session and this should be enough money to pay the school ($20 per hour) for the use of the gym. Al Niessner advised that no special notification to the AMA is required for insurance purposes as this would be considered just another club event or activity. Thanks to Joe Wieber for setting this up. The school is located at 800 Westerly Parkway in State College.

·         Field Search Committee.

Al Niessner showed plans for the Whitehall Road Parklands. There is no provision for a flying field but there is a designated dog park. George Mock forwarded information to Al regarding the 165 acres acquired by Centre Hall Borough, Gregg Township and Potter Township. A questionnaire was issued to residents to provide their input to the committee for the planning of the Tri-Municipal Park. This may be another opportunity for SCRC. Henry Margusity mentioned an inactive football field near the Leitzinger Imports auto dealership that may be worth pursuing.

·         John Werner received permission to post Maynard Hill’s DVD on SCRC’s RC Groups website. John has the DVD available to club members wishing to borrow it. Maynard Hill holds world records for R/C airplane altitude, distance and duration flights.

·         Last month, members voted against purchasing Lori Cowell’s remaining stock of SCRC hats and shirts at a reduced price. Since then, the hats and shirts were returned to Monogram Centre by parcel post. Lori expressed her understanding of our situation and seemed willing take us up on our offer to sell the stock at club events.

·         Chuck Paulson reported that the nomination committee has a nearly completed slate of candidates for the 2010 SCRC officer election. The position that still requires a nominee is Newsletter Editor. Anyone interested in taking on that responsibility, please contact Chuck, Al Jones or Sam Stitzer. As of now, here are the nominees: Ron Lueth (President), Rob Krankel (Vice-President), Al Jones (Treasurer), Daryl Allen (Secretary), Newsletter Editor (Open).

·         Ron mentioned the KIEF event (Keystone Indoor Electric Fly) that took place on October 16th, 17th and 18th at the Muncy Sports Dome. A.J. Jaffe reported that they had 147 registered pilots. There are some excellent pictures and videos posted at: http://www.pafunfly.com/photopage.html

  1. New business –

·         Ron reminded us of SCRC’s upcoming winter banquet. Members voted to try to book the event at the Legion Hall (same location as last year for either January 23rd or January 30th. Members also voted in favor of repeating Last year’s menu - Prime Rib and Stuffed Chicken Breasts. Smashed Garlic Potatoes and Green Beans.  Fruit Salad and an assortment of desserts.

  1. Program – no program.

  1. Show and Tell –

§  Henry Margusity showed his Spectra glider covered in gold MonoKote. It’s a winter project that’s not quite finished. Henry rebuilt it with parts from crashes and other sources.

The motion to adjourn passed at 8:20 pm. Lynn Zinsmeister won the 50/50 drawing splitting $18.00 with the club.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daryl Allen, Secretary
