State College Radio Control Club Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 Meeting Minutes

The Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. No visitors, guests or new members were in attendance.

  1. The meeting minutes from the October 2nd meeting were approved.

  1. In the absence of Al Jones, George Gurney read the Treasurer’s report which was approved by membership.

  1. Old business –

·         George Gurney reported on the progress of the field search effort. He had an opportunity to fly a glider at a potential site near Whitehall road in Ferguson Township. George advised that the field is flat and well suited to our requirements. Last month, Curt Buergin sent a letter of interest to Ron Woodhead. Active land-use planning in Ferguson Township for recreational purposes will take place in December of 2008.

·         Henry Margusity, chairman of the committee for the flight training program, advised that no new information is available at this time. Planning for this program will likely be a winter project.

·         Curt advised that the air horns, whistles and orange safety vests are now stored at the frequency board. Club members are urged to utilize these safety items to alert fellow R/C fliers of approaching and departing full-scale aircraft.

·         Curt Buergin, Chuck Paulson, Al Jones, and Daryl Allen have all agreed to retain office for 2008. However, Chuck will run for President and Curt will run for vice-president. Sam Stitzer has agreed to stay on as newsletter editor. Nominations for these offices are open and voting will be done at the December meeting.

·         Curt suggested two possible dates for the winter banquet, January 19th and January 26th. A motion was made to make it the 19th. Motion carried. A motion was made to have a choice of two meat entrees instead of having only one choice. This would raise the price per plate from $16.00 to $17.50 – or $19.00 if the prime rib is your choice. Motion carried. The meat selections are prime rib, top round of beef, baked ham and stuffed chicken breast. Curt asked that club members e-mail him (by November 25th) with their choices so we have an idea of which two of the four to pick - and to get a feel for the potential number of attendees.

  1. New Business –

·         Curt received an e-mail message from Mr. Craig Libuse requesting permission to use SCRC’s Bill Brown information and pictures on his website. Membership voted to approve this request. The site is the Internet Craftsmanship Museum, engine building section. Check out the website at: http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/enginemen.htm

·         Appropriations for the procurement of banquet door prizes were briefly discussed but it was decided that Curt               will get together with Al Jones to discuss further. George Gurney advised that in the past, SCRC funds up to $200 were used to buy the prizes and Will Coder took care of the purchases.

·         Early in the meeting, Diana Coder stopped by to drop off three boxes of airplane books that belonged to Will. These were offered to club members to buy at minimal cost after the meeting.

5.   Program – No program

  1. Show and Tell

·         Henry Margusity showed his recently completed relic, a nice old Lanier Slow Comet ARF that he got from Woody. The kit was new in the box but missing instructions so Henry had to do a little internet surfing. It is made mostly of molded plastic and plastic sheet covered foam cores. The model powered by an OS .35 glow engine.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM and Peter Caddick won the 50-50 drawing, splitting $19.00 with the club.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daryl Allen, Secretary
