These are some pictures from a very windy Sunday.  A full-scale pilot that flew in got some pictures of me (with my old avistar) and Brian or Daryl with a Twist.  They're good pics!  Nathaniel  October 17, 2006

Those of you who know John Shenk are probably well aware of his interest in the Italian Falco aircraft.  He has been building Falco models for many years now.  Here is a photo of his latest.

This is a quarter scale version of the aircraft.  John asked Woody to help with the first flights until the airplane was trimmed properly.  The flights went well and, although it still needs some adjustments, John was very pleased with these first flights.  He really appreciates Woody's help.

Chuck Paulson's Aerial View of our Flying Area

On Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2003, Chuck Paulson took these aerial photos of the SCRC Flying Field and the surrounding area.  Click on any photo to see a larger view which is about 1/4th of the full size photo.  Clicking on the 1/4th size photo will bring up the full size photo.  Note that it will take longer to download the larger photos.

Here is Chuck's description of his experience taking the photos:

Last Sunday I brought my Soarstar out for flying and tried out my digital camera setup at the flying field for the first time. I took about 25 pictures and had a lot of fun doing it. Here are 4 of the best. They have been reduced in size to 1/4 of the original size with some loss of detail, but I hope you might be able to put them up on the SCRC website.

The Soarstar is a stock model except for changing from tamiya to deans ultra connectors and using 1100 mAh batteries instead of the stock 600 mAh. The camera is an Aiptek 1.3 MB Megacam with a servo attached to trigger the shutter button. It has 16 MB of memory and each picture takes about 250kB so it can hold about 60 pictures.

The three photos below show (1) a view down the valley looking from high above the field to the east, (2) a view of Eby Paving on the right and the east end of the mine across 64. It's looking almost due south from the east edge of the flying field. Garbrick Rd would be just off the right hand side of the picture. , (3) a view  looking SW from the field. The main road from lower left to upper right is 64 and Garbrick Rd would be just off the bottom of the picture. You can also see the west end of a big open pit mine.

Mike Songer's Airborne Video

Mike has made several videos using the twin engine airplane shown on the left.  The plane is ready to carry a small video camera that records the full flight.

A video clip is available for download and viewing.  The clip was made during a flight in the Blanchard Dam area.  Several short sections from the original video are presented in the file below.  Please note that the video file is nearly 6 Mbytes and will take several minutes (18.5 minutes on my 56k modem) to download.  Click here to see the video.

SCRC Members Fly for Fun

Henry's Corsair at the Fun Fly

Henry's report on the Corsair's maiden flight

This past Sunday at the club picnic (May 19 , 2002 ), I got around to flying the Corsair ( which had been in the in the archived photos that I built in 1996 ) and everything went splendidly. I took off and tested everything on the first flight, gear up, straight and level flight, rolls , loops, and at the suggestion of Jon Polay, a strafing pass down on the deck. I didn't even have to make any trim changes. Then on landing, flaps down which slowed it to a crawl, and touchdown. What a relief ! Everything still in one piece.

The following photos of Henry's Corsair have been moved from the archives to show more details of this fine plane

My First R/C Model

by

Lyle Long

This is one of my favorite photos. It shows me (on left) and Bob Hansen (PhD, LTC, & Assoc. Prof. at West Point), and the first plane I built (a Great Planes PT-40). Bob gave me lots of advice during the building of it.  --  Lyle Long
