Blog a critical paragraph on "the common basis of religions". I would like one precise, accurate, well-written paragraph.
1. Who suggested a common basis?
2. What is the common basis?
3. What (effects) does it produce (in/on society)?
You will find it in your reading. Please be sure to pull your examples and definitions from the reading.

Durkheim presented us all with the common basis of all religion. According to Durkheim, no matter how obscurely abstract a religion may be, or as deeply scientifically rooted it may be, all religion represents something real. Although not every religion can be right there are striking similarities revolving around the various religions. "What all religions have in common, rather, are two things: certain beliefs held by all adherents and certain rituals that the believers collectively perform" (Collins 33). Durkheim goes on to explain how no matter what level of sociability we tend to have we are extremely social creatures. Even our conscious though is Social. When we take time to think to ourselves we are using words that we did not create. "We cannot escape society, even when we are alone. As long as we are conscious, society is implicitly there." This makes religion extremely powerful. Religion is embedded in society and therefore within us. Religion stands as a symbol for many people, symbols that can unite a people, or tear a society apart.
