I propose: Learning 2.0 @ PSUL
I'd like to put a programming idea on the table for PSU Libraries. It's been spreading like wildfire at other libraries and I'd love to see us do it at PSUL. Let's try the Learning 2.0 program that's been developed by the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County. By mean "let's try", I mean lets have a small planning group, develop a timetable, some marketing, incentives (read: prizes), etc....basically a plan, to get a whole bunch of folks here on board with the idea.
If you are not familiar with this program, it's designed to educate organizations about new technologies and is based around exploring 23 things. It's offered under a Creative Commons license so you can duplicate it and use the pre-packed pieces of it in your own library, so we're talking minimal development time here.
Of course we wouldn't want to just hang the program out there by itself...we'd need some context, discussions on either end of it, those kind of things. I think it would be a great campus-wide initiative for continuing discussions about web/library 2.0. We could somehow tie it into our in-service day... ok, the spark plugs are firing!

So, I read through this more and I think it could be really awesome! Instead of just talking about what a blog/rss/etc it's TEACHING through the process itself. What a crazy idea! :)
Great discovery-- what to do next?

It would be nice if we could formalize this as a professional development activity in collaboration with another entity (HR?) here in the Libraries.
Being the newest newbie posting a response so far, I didn't know there WAS an in-service day. The project is designed to go relatively self paced but with weekly Milestones. Do you think that format would work in the PSULibrary environment? Many things seem more formal here, but I think if something is introduced in a few forums and the PRIZES are mentioned, individuals will self-motivate.
J--I agree...I think we should try this kind of format...it was be different for us...so I think having some kind of context and forum for discussion would be critical.
p.s. It appears that the PLCMCL gave a way a laptop! How did they do that?!
This is a great idea...while at ALA I was talking with a former Dean who is now Dean at UA Fairbanks and he is implementing this for his staff and faculty.
