The "Newbie" & Project Number One

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks
Well yesterday was my first day as a full member of ETS. I'm apparently only "the new person" for this week as someone else starts next Monday. I should be an old pro by then... riiiiggghhhttt. At least I'll have someone fooled into thinking I know a lot!

I'm obviously still in the learning mode with it only being day two but I've been given a project involving studying the differences between the blogs MT4 and 4.1/4.2 platforms. This blog in particular is killing two birds with one stone--informing everyone of what I've been up to and letting me play with my blog settings and postings a fresh time in MT4 so that I can better notice differences on the 4.2 development site.

We're trying to brainstorm how to get the word out to more people about the blogs project, the changes from MT4 to 4.2 for current users, and tips/interesting features for use. It was suggested to have something like a "Tip/Feature of the Week" idea. This created one of those wonderful snowball effects while meeting with Brad yesterday. But of course this also created about a million more questions that I've been pondering ever since.

We first thought about emailing all current bloggers and setting up an optional listserv for those that wanted to get the weekly tips/features. But when we're trying to promote blogging, isn't it sort of anti-campaign to email instead of hmmmmm BLOG?!?! So this is a cool idea. We can maintain a blog that we update once a week (maybe more if we get a few dedicated people on board) that is beneficial for users to come check out. Best part, since it's a blog, they can add info too! Get them into trackbacks and such and we are on our way!

  • So what's the best way to go about getting started?
  • How do we get non-bloggers to start a blog and join in the fun?
  • What if we run out of features to talk about? Do we just switch to general blogging info such as innovative uses of blogs?
Questions, questions, questions!

I'm so excited.

iPhone happy... mostly

I feel that I have slightly neglected my blog recently, but I have good reasons! The first was that I got my iPhone and was completely addicted to it and the Apps store (don't worry... only the free stuff) for a number of days. I do have a few complaints. One, it crashes... trying to figure out if it is a certain app or two. Two, how come the keyboard can't flip sideways for bigger buttons and easier typing? Three, why does the camera not zoom or take video? And four, most annoyingly, why can you not send and receive pictures in text messages??? I understand it is able to email but try telling that to our technologically illiterate mothers of the world.  Minus the stuff above... I'm very happy!

iPhones on Friday!!!

So the new iPhone goes on sale at 8am on Friday.  The AT&T store in the mall opens early for the occasion (yes we're that geeky we checked).  So I'm currently now trying to figure out how many people would be ahead of me in line if we got there at say, 7-7:30???  And how late will I have to stay at work to make up the time?  I wonder how many Arts Fest attendees are also gadget fanatics.  Hmmmmm.
