My broader research interests focus on the risk and protective factors of families of divorce or breakup. Specifically, I am interested in the individual development of children from broken unions, the well-being of non-resident fathers, and the quality of relationship between parents of broken unions. My research goals involve examining and identifying family processes that undermine effective co-parenting strategies among divorced or separated populations. Understanding how these types of families function and relate will help me develop my eventual plan of research, which is to design and implement
coparenting interventions for non-resident fathers and resident mothers, taking into account the complexities that arise when ex-partners have new partners and children (i.e., multiple-partnered fertility). Identifying both protective and risk factors in these families will be the key to effective interventions within this population.
