This is a course on theoretical statistics for first-year graduate students.
Topics treated include:
Sufficiency, completeness, the likelihood principle,
parameter estimation, hypothesis testing,
decision theory, Bayesian inference,
sequential procedures, multivariate distributions and
Applications to a variety of fields will be explored.
Throughout the course, we will monitor the
New York Times and
Centre Daily Times
newspapers for articles
that lead to applications of mathematical statistics.
We will study the
information in such articles and relate them
subject of the course and to our
everyday life and experiences.
