A friend twittered a googleMap address of his neighborhood, near the current fires in Santa Barbara. I went to a street view and was able to pan around easily. Actually saw smoke, probably from last year. I'd heard of the feature, but never explored it. Now I'm hooked.
I punched in my old address in Philadelphia and was able to see the apartment building I lived in. Then I noticed that I could "walk" down the street with my arrow keys, each click advancing 5-10 feet. Since it was so damned nice out and traffic wasn't a problem, I "walked" to a place I had worked a few blocks away, at 39th and Sansom. The place has changed, probably several times over since the mid 70s.
IMAGE REMOVEDWhen I worked at the restaurant, Watson's, the windows along the left side in the photo weren't there. It was a large, blank "graffiti" filled space. I painted it, oddly, the color it still is. I mixed the color from an assortment of different paints I'd found in the basement. A little pink semi-gloss, a half gallon of exterior primer, an unopened quart of brown floor enamel. A few others. When I had to do touch ups, the "recipe" was a strange brew of different brands picked up from two different paint stores. Pretty goofy.
I was hoping somebody would come out so I could ask them if they still did the same thing… I couldn't open the door.
