CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

August 26, 2008

Students are urged to use the Power-point slides posted on the course web site as a guide for taking notes during the lecture.  They should be viewed skeletal outlines of the lectures, and are not intended as a substitute for taking notes.

The directions that follow allow you to fit more than one slide on a sheet of paper:

-          -         On course home page choose Topical Outlines and Notes

-- select notes you wish --

-          -         Once they appear in browser, click

o   o       File

o   o       Edit with Microsoft PowerPoint (PP) for Windows

-- must have PP installed on computer --

-          -         You are then prompted for a Network Password

-          -         Click Cancel (as many times as needed)

Ex.  For “Urban Process” I needed to press cancel twice, for “Decline of Machine Politics” 3 times.  Eventually it will come up in PP.

-          -         Once the notes have come up in PP

o   o       Select File

o   o       Print

--Now you need to change the category, “Print what:” to “handouts”, and then directly to the right you can adjust how many slides fit per page --

----------------------

-          -         If you wish to save the slides to your hard drive/or disk, go to “Save As”

-          -         You’ll have to go through the process of canceling the Network Password again.

-          -         ALSO: make sure you change the “Save As Type” from “Web Page” to the version of PowerPoint that is on your computer.
