I thought that our mapping project about blogs taught me a lot. The biggest thing that I have come to realize is that there are many different purposes for blogs. All blogs, in one way or another, promote the spread of information. Many blogs do this by linking to other blogs and creating more of a social link between bloggers. However, the blog network that my team (Multivac) researched, New Scientist Technology Blog, was different. There was not really a tight-knit community between bloggers. Instead, the purpose of that blog was to promote the spread of information (technology news, in this case). The bloggers were only looking to educate others about technology. They were not necessarily looking for any sort of sense of community. I guess each type of blog serves its own intended purpose.

Our seed blog did not really have a tight community, but I do not think that all blogs do. Just like there are so many different kinds of blogs there are so many different kinds of communities. This entire unit was interesting to me because I have never done anything with blogs in my entire life until this class. Although blogs are interesting, in the end, I probably won't be keeping a blog unless I have to. I would rather just email someone instead if I had something to say.

It's really difficult to maintain the motivation to blog when you don't have an audience to write to. Right now, our audience is our everyone else involved in this same class. Once this class is over, however, who is going to be reading these?
I really think the most essential part of blogging success is establishing a readerbase, and maintaining it.
