At the halfway point in my first ever sabbatical, I am keenly aware of the impending culmination of one of the most productive and enjoyable periods of my academic career. In the years leading up to this point, I had fallen into an unhealthy, spread-to-thin, frantic pattern of professional behavior. Having the time to write, read, and most importantly to think has revitalized my professional life in ways that can only be described as profound. I am beginning to contemplate approaches for maintaining some of the intellectual space I have come to enjoy recently upon my return to more traditional faculty life in Fall 2010. No answers yet, but I am working on it.
