Get Ready for Fall Semester

During the Fall semester, there will be numerous career fairs, networking events, information sessions and other opportunities for your career development. Are you prepared to participate?

Here are some steps to help you get ready:

1.
Research careers using links on the Career Services website: www.hbg.psu.edu/careers

2. Think about how you will present yourself to a recruiter.
Work on your verbal skills and prepare a short introduction (known as an "elevator pitch") highlighting your skills or career interest.

3. Build or update your resume
now to include new academic and work-related skills.

4. Prepare a (sample) cover letter and create or update your references list.

5. Use INTERVIEW STREAM, our on-line resource, to practice  interviewing.

6.  Get experience by interning, working at a part-time job, volunteering, job shadowing or interviewing professionals in your field. Back on campus, participate in clubs or work with a faculty member on a research project.

7.
Activate and use your  Nittany Lion Career Network account (NLCN) to look for internship or other opportunities.

8.
Prepare for fall recruiting: In late August, add On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) to your NLCN account ( $15 yearly charge).

9. Meet with a Career Counselor to review your plans.
Phone for an appointment: (717) 948-6260.

We look forward to working with you.
