Visualizing Well-Being

The Gallup-Healthways Well-being Index, 2016
The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index is a composite measure of subjective well-being.
It is calculated yearly for each state, based on thousands of Gallup Surveys.
The index is composed of the 5 following elements:

Purpose: Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals.
Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life.
Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security.
Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community.
Physical: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily.

Based on the surveys, each state is assigned a ranking 1-50 for each element, as well as an overall ranking (shown in parentheses).
This visualization displays the overall rankings as a choropleth map; compare any set of index components using the scatterplots.
All 5 elements for each state can be viewed via map mouse-over. Note: Rank of 50 indicates the highest well-being.
