The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index is a composite measure of subjective well-being.
It is calculated yearly for each state, based on thousands of Gallup Surveys.
The index is composed of the 5 following elements:
Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals.
Having supportive relationships and love in your life.
Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security.
Liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community.
Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily.
Based on the surveys, each state is assigned a ranking 1-50
for each element,
as well as an overall
ranking (shown in parentheses).
This visualization displays the overall rankings as a choropleth map;
compare any set of index components using the scatterplots.
All 5 elements for each state can be viewed via map mouse-over. Note: Rank of 50 indicates the highest well-being.
