Dr. Adu is experimental condensed matter physicist with expertise in engineering advanced nanomaterials, their application in new technologies and the nanoscale physics that stem from quantum confinement phenomena in these advanced nanostructures.

Dr. Aduís research involves the growth, processing and study of nanomaterials such as nanowires, nanotubes, nanofibers and carbide derived carbon. The main focus is investigating the fundamental properties of nanoscale materials and their applications in the emerging energy technologies. The work involves measurement and prediction of quantum phenomena in nanostructures as their size and diameter cross from classical size regime (100nm -20nm) into quantum regime (below 20nm). In the quantum regime, nanostructures exhibit unusual optical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties that could be used to develop conductive wires,thermoelectric and energy devices. The measurements include Raman/absorption spectroscopy, four probe resistivity, thermoelectric power, thermal conductivity, specific heat, coefficient of thermal expansion, tensile strength, elongation and elastic modulus of individual and assembled macro-sized structures.
