My friend and colleague, Alan Levine, did remember to press the little red record button right before we started talking for our ELI session. He captured the whole thing (I think as I haven't listened to it) and posted it. Alan, Jim Groom, and I spend the better part of an hour discussing blogs as publishing platforms and work to answer as many questions as we can. Might be worth a listen -- if you are into that sort of thing.

"Creation - the art of putting one of these things together … even though GarageBand is easy, it is still hard for normal people. Try asking a typical teacher/faculty member to get all that gear ready, hook up a mic, handle the post production, and everything in between … just not going happen. Maybe a couple of the steps, but not all of them."Maybe we are set to make some progress? As a big part of this whole thing we are looking at Podcast Producer. We're just getting started, but it looks like a really nice way to simplify the podcasting process ... think how nice it would be if all an instructor had to do is walk into a classroom, clip on a microphone, and click record. Then the resulting file gets moved off and posted to any number of places within the PSU eco-system. To get to what we are after, the first thing we'll want to do is to write some use cases to help us make some decisions on how we test and (ultimately) deploy Apple's Podcast Producer. Our areas of focus are specifically (in this order):
- Audio only
- Audio synchronized with slides
- Video
- Integration with iTunes U
- Integration with Blogs at PSU
- Integration with Streaming Server
- Mobile Capture
Just thought I'd let everyone know we have a new ETS Talk available. This week we spend a good 30 minutes talking about our online identities. It took us nearly two months to find our way back into the 210F Studio, but it was worth the wait. You might even get a kick out of our TLT Symposium promo we recorded after the fact.Might be worth a listen.
ETS Talk 21 is now available ... I'll let you decide where you get it from ... the page on the other end of this link will let you decide either the Podcasts at Penn State or Penn State on iTunes U. It was a fun session ... we had Dr. Scott McDonald from the College of Education join us here in the Studio.
I thought it would be a good idea to provide a link from this space over to a presentation I did for the all ITS Staff meeting that happened back in January of 2007. This was a Spring 2007 Podcasts at Penn State update ... instead of delivering it in Keynote, I decided to use the PSU Blog tool to do it. I was obviously interested in sharing the information about the podcasting project, but was also excited about showing a few novel uses of a blog. I think it worked fairly well.

As I was browsing through the Podcasts at Penn State analytics data for the week I noticed a huge jump in the number of visits (about 2,000 for the week). When I jumped over to the specific page that was getting all the hits I was surprised to see the "Honey Bees in Crisis" podcast being done by Carla Zimbal-Saul and her students. Really well done and pulling in some major attention and traffic. It is well worth a visit! BTW, here is the Geo Map of where visitors are coming from to the Podcasts at Penn State site from last week.

Last week I was interviewed for an article the Collegian was doing on podcasting at Penn State titled, Lectures could be available for iPods. Riveting title, but it is a decent article. I worked hard with the staff writer that she understand the pilot nature of our project. Nice to see a little positive flow.
The latest ETS Talk Podcast is now available. I am hoping now with the new enclosure capabilities in our very PSU Blog solution it will be auto-delivered via an RSS Enclosure. As always, all the ETS Talk Podcasts can be found at Podcasts at Penn State or Penn State on iTunes U.
