Monologue
A-a-art died last summer
A-a-art died last summer
We r-rented a couple of 30-6's from Herb Bauer's and went h-hunting on the west side
We heard there was p-plenty of j-jackrabbits, jackrabbits running all over the p-place
We'd never s-shot, shot anything before
We'd never s-shot, shot anything before
It was a b-bright sunny day, it was well o-over a 100 d-degrees
There were r-rabbit holes throughout the f-flat, arid t-terrain
They d-disappeared as we w-walked
They d-disappeared as we w-walked
In the d-distance, one s-suddenly appeared f-from underground
As if by instinct, we r-raised and aimed our r-rifles
We f-fired s-simultaneously
We f-fired s-simultaneously
After the s-shots r-rang out, there was no m-movement
We f-found no e-evidence of a b-body
It had a-atomized
It had a-atomized
We w-walked b-back to the c-car, laid the r-rifles in the t-trunk
We d-drove b-back to t-town without s-saying a w-word to e-each other
A-a-art d-died l-last s-summer
A-a-art d-died l-last s-summer
It is when the language system overstrains itself that it begins to stutter, to murmur, or to mumble; then the entire language reaches the limit that sketches the outside and confronts silence.
