The faculty has agreed to the following changes to the curriculum in order to add flexibility to the graduate program.
- Students may satisfy two out of three of the language and logic requirements (two languages and logic) rather than all three. Their choices must be justified to and approved by their mentors/advisory committees. This change will apply to all current students.
- Students must take at least five courses in four of the five historical areas (Ancient, Medieval, Modern, 19th C, 20th C). They may double-up in any area but 20th C. This change too will apply to all current students.
To be clear, the translation seminar requirement has not changed?
That is right, the translation seminar requirement has not changed, but the faculty is in the process of looking at the entire structure of the program related to language requirements.
The graduate committee is considering possible modifications to the translation seminar for the faculty to consider. However, students should plan as if there will be no substantive change in the translation seminar requirement because any change in the curriculum will involve something comparable even if not identical.
