Employment
Currently I work at Acutec Precision Machining, Inc. in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. Acutec is an Aerospace parts manufacturer that deals with many of today's leading Aerospace companies.
I work there part time during the school year and full time whenever I get breaks from classes. I am currently the Presetter Department Head that is in charge of the presetting department. The presetting department is responsible for setting up CNC mill tooling for 20+ machines. The presetting department sees all of the tooling that moves through the milling department on a daily basis.
Since I have been in charge of the presetting department I have constructed a system for sending out tooling that is specific to certain jobs. Since there is so much job specific tooling that flows out of our shop to different grinding companies, it was inevitable that under the old system that some of this tooling would not be accounted for. After holding these grinding companies accountable, we have had a much higher turnover rate of tooling returns, from around a month to as little as a week. We also have had less tooling loss.
I have also developed a digital set-up sheet system that the milling programmers, operators, and presetters now use for new jobs. This system allows programmers to complete setup sheets faster, include 3D images for reference, and be more specific in tooling descriptions. These sheets also allow for better communication of ideas to operators and presetters.
Hopefully, in the next year or two I can start working in the IT department at Acutec and learn the valuable, on-the-job skills that I will need to further my career.
