Dance

The dances I am particularly fond of are the ones that are highly improvisational and have a focus on the connection both between the partners and the music.  My two favorites are Argentine tango and west coast swing.

Tango

Learning Argentine tango has drastically influenced the way I view connection, movement, and musical interaction.  I started studying it in 2003 while living in the DC area during my time as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland.  The majority of my tango instruction has come from Murat Erdemsel.  I have also attended workshops at tango festivals with professionals from around the world.  While at Penn State I have been a volunteer teacher for a number of the tango classes.  Tango at Penn State is offered through the Social Dance Club and the Ballroom Dance Club.

West Coast Swing

I started learning West Coast Swing in the DC area in 2002, while an undergraduate.  The versatility of this dance is one of the main things I like about it.  It can be danced to almost anything with a four beat rhythm.  Also, the dance allows for incorporation of many other elements such as body isolations.  I have had experience teaching beginning west coast swing classes at Penn State through the Social Dance Club.

Other

Every style of dance interests me, especially partner dance styles.  I have had experience with competitive ballroom, salsa, hustle, and other partner dances.  I taught a series of the standard and latin ballroom lessons while at the University of Maryland.  At Penn State I enjoyed taking part in a salsa rueda performance with the advanced salsa group.
