My name is Cheryl Cheek and I am an associate professor of Human Development and Family Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. I am researching Manx identity and as part of this study I am looking for volunteers to fill out a survey on Manx identity. The only qualifications to be part of this study are to be over 18 years of age and NOT currently living on the Isle of Man. You may take part in this study whether or not you were born Manx.

You will be asked to fill out a 4-page survey that will ask you questions about your feelings/perceptions about being Manx. Filling it out should take 10-15 minutes of your time.

I would just like to let you know of the rights you have as a participant in this research. This research is voluntary and confidential. Your responses will be combined with those of everyone else who answers this survey. No one will be able to identify you personally from your answers. However, since this is coming over the internet, there is still the outside possibility that a hacker could intercept it. Even though it is a very unlikely possibility, we can’t guarantee against hackers!

You also have the right to refuse to answer any question and the right to withdraw at any time. Your responses will be combined with those of other people who have filled out our surveys to help me in having a better understanding of Manx identity.

If you have any questions you can either call me or email me and I will respond. You can reach me any time at:

Or if you would like to withdraw entirely, just call me and give the number of your survey and it will be withdrawn. You will not need to give your name.

If you would like to participate in the survey, please click on the I AGREE button below. By doing so, you are letting me know that you are consenting to be part of the study.
