Colonial life was certainly different from our life today.  They didn’t have iPods, cars, television, or electricity.

Let’s take a closer look at colonial life.  Look at the image below on the right.  According to that picture, what do you think colonial life was like?  Discuss your ideas with your classmates. 

With your partner, click on your assigned picture and carefully study it.  What inferences about colonial life can you make based on your picture?  Don’t forget to record your ideas on your Picture Detective Sheet.

Colonial life was different depending on where you lived. The 13 British Colonies were separated into three main regions: New England, Middle, and Southern.  Several factors affected how the colonies developed and how colonists lived.  The settlers’ motivation, the geography and climate of the land, the leadership, and the economy all influenced the colonies.
