Podcasting using the new Dell Optiplex 755 Computers
This
Summer, the computers in the technology classrooms at Penn State have
been upgraded. As a result, some of you that have been formerly
using the model "Dell Optiplex 280" have had computers replaced with
the newer "Dell Optiplex 755's." These computers require some
configurational changes in order for them to successfully record your voice. The details are minor and shouldn't take much of your time. They are outlined below.
The
first action to do to ensure that you have a successful recording is to
double click on the speaker icon in the lower right hand part of your
screen.
After
doing that, be sure that both "Rear Input" and "Microphone"
are muted. (If they are not muted, you might hear yourself
as you speak).
Make sure that the "Advanced" menu is enabled.
Click on the "Rear Input" "Advanced" menu.
Select both "Use as Microphone" and "Microphone Boost."
Select the "Properties" menu under "Options."
In the properties menu select "Recording."
Make sure to use "Rear Input" as your source by checking the appropriate box.
You should now be able to launch your voice recording program and get appropriate voice patterns as a response. Be sure that on your recording program you select "Rear Input" instead of "Microphone."
