Ok guys, time for a history lesson. When this game started, there
was no traditional/advanced, or any restricted cards whatsoever.
Beat down was all the rage, and "cookie cutter" deck was the best
possible beat down you could make, usually featuring 3x La Jinn, 3x 7
Colored Fish, Man eater bug, and Mech Chasers if you were very rich.
No one played anything else, and for many sets there was no
differentiation in game dynamics. No one thought u could build
anything else, and with good reason. Beat Down was just the
supperior deck type, and anyone who tried to a theme deck, like
spell caster, they were seriously pummeled....
Then.....On August 10, 2003, Ng Yu Leung won the 2003 World Championships,
beginning a Yu-Gi-Oh! revolution. At the time, his deck was considered
to be highly unorthodox, and many even considered it to be a ˇ§bad deck.ˇ¨
Regardless of the individual opinions, everyone thought something about
the deck, everyone saw it, and everyone was changed by it. This was what
we "veteran duelists" consider the ˇ§Deck Seen ˇ¦Round the World."
For your convenience, I have posted his deck here
So.... As the story goes, this deck winning nationals in 2003
paved the way for what we know as control decks, and more importantly,
showed you can be different to win at this game, and break away from
cookie cutter decks. Since then, tons of new deck types have been
winning tournaments all over the country. Mystic Tomato was
instrumental in this renaissance of sorts.
But I Digress.... You came here for a card review, not a history
lesson.... Well with this upset victory over a very powerful beat
down deck, duelists by the thousands reconsidered mystic tomato.
It is an extremely versatile search monster, being able to pull out
Sangan, Don Zaloog, Grave keeprs, and is a dark monster making it
excellent chaos food, and a great chump blocker or pinch hit attacker.
Its overshadowed a bit in the current meta, but this card deserves
a special place in our hearts.

Mystic Tomato........plant-type...........not a type that people
would find very interesting (that is unless combining it with insects).
1400 attack is not really something you'd think of as great for a level
four monster. It's plus sides however lie with it's attribute and effect.
It's a dark attribute monster, which is one of the most popular attribute
used in the game.
The biggest plus with this monster is its effect. When it's destroyed
in battle, you get to special summon a dark monster to your field in
attack mode with an attack of 1500 or less. This is one of the biggest
support cards for some of the major deck themes, such as Chaos,
Spellcaster, etc.
The downside to this veggie is that it must be destroyed in battle.
In today's metagame, there are so many cards to remove monsters from
the field other than battle (Nobleman of Crossout, Smashing Ground, the
ol' steal it with Snatch or Brain Control and sack it). However, if
used in the right deck, it is a valuable asset.

this card is good. not spectacular, but good. At first a lot of
peopel didn't like this card very much, because what's the point of
summoning such a weak monster in attack? well as the game evolved
people started seeing the usefulness of this card. It thins the deck
and gets a monster on the field. some cards this card can get: mystic
tomato, sangan, giant germ, pyramid turtle (i think), and most gk's
monsters, and exoida peaces.
This card can make it into most decks, i use them in chaos decks and
my clown deck.
it has its limitations. it has to be destroyed in battle and sent
to the grave. so nobleman, smashing, torrential, sakaretsu, etc
etc and ddwl stop its effect
overall good card
