Crimson Duelist
Administrator Alright everybody of VIP... I officially now need a permanent new reviewer for COTW. Blackwindx is trying out this week, and if he goes over well I might stick him in. However, ANYONE is free to try out, so if that's something you think you might want to do, please let me know and I'll set up a try out for you!

Ok, this week we have a YamiDragon pick, those are always fun... Spirit Reaper! This little guy is the bane of some duelists existence, the thorn in others paw, and a trusted and noble servant to others. This card has truly been one of the best cards in the game since its release. I can't give it enough praise. This is one of the best top decks you can possibly draw. Pull it, throw it in def mode, and your opponent will have a tough time getting rid of it as it is not destroyed in battle at any time. Secondly, if it strikes your opponents life points, they get a random discard which is huge! The last great feature of this card is obviously its type, being dark makes it excellent chaos food! You won't be seeing it again once it hits the grave side from monster reincarnation, but you might just see it later after a RFDD.

Now some downsides to this card, and how to deal with it effectively. Obviously, its stats are pathetic. If you catch it in atk mode, you can pound it and deal massive damage to your opponents life points. If this card is targeted by ANY effect, it is destroyed. This makes it vulnerable to many more cards then usual, like book of moon and snatch steal, or if your opponent is really tricky, and equip card, all of which send this on a one way trip to the graveyard. This card also has very low def as you might have noticed. Monsters like Exarion and the still semi played Spear Dragon give this card a really tough time when in def mode.

In a zombie deck, this card truly shines with all the zombie support, and your safe running it in 3's. In a standard advanced deck, 1 or 2 will do. As good as this guy is, you don't want a hand full of them most of the time.

Advanced Score : 4.2/5

This week we decide to take a look at one of the most annoying monsters in the game¡KSpirit Reaper. What makes this little creature so annoying is what lies within its special ability. Reaper can not be destroyed in battle at any time. Therefore, as long as you have it in defense mode, your life points are pretty much safe.

There are several advantages to this minion. For one, as stated previously, it is not destroyed in battle. So, you can leave this creature on your field as a stall for when you¡¦re getting beat down by your opponent¡¦s forces, or simply to be sure you¡¦ll have a sacrifice for one of your stronger tribute monsters. Another nice effect from Reaper is that if it attacks your opponent¡¦s life points directly, he/she must discard one card from his/her hand at random. Therefore, have your stronger monster(s) take out the opponent¡¦s defense, then hit them for this small amount and you bring forth a ¡V1 to your opponent. Just be wary, with effects as grand as these, there must be downsides to counteract them. Take a look at the stats of this monster and you¡¦ll find them to be quite small¡K300/200 to be exact. Be wary about attacking your opponent directly while your life points are low. Although Reaper is not destroyed in battle, you still receive battle damage from an attack. Even having Reaper in defense mode could bring disastrous results with the number of trample monsters out there (Spear Dragon, Exarion, etc). Since Reaper would not be destroyed, the opponent could continue to trample you over and over again with the piercing damage. Also be wary of its defect¡Kif Reaper is targeted by the effect of a spell, trap, or monster effect, it is immediately destroyed. Therefore, don¡¦t try reviving it with Premature or Call of the Haunted, because as soon as it hits the field, it goes right back to the grave. Also, trying to power this critter up with equip spells is out of the question as well. It¡¦s gonna be a 300/200 zombie¡Kso deal with that =D.

Some other advantages to this card lie in its characteristics. For one, Spirit Reaper is a Dark monster. The first thing to pop in your mind here should be Chaos. This card works very nicely in chaos themes. Put Reaper on the field so that it¡¦s ready to be sacrificed, then remove it for the mighty Sorcerer (or the other chaos beasts if you play traditional). Reaper is also a must if you play with the zombie theme. Reaper itself is a zombie, and also gets your field geared up to bring out the many other stronger zombies, such as Vampire Lord and Ryu Kokki. This little minion is also a good choice for many other general decks because of its potential to allow you to tribute for your other stronger beasts that lie within your deck.

All in all, this card is a very nice stall for many different situations, and fits nicely within any deck that uses more powerful tribute monsters. Just be wary of those beatdown decks that like to uses piercing damage.

Slifer Alright, guys this is my first review (yay). But hopefully not my las =P

So, yeah, to the card. Spirit Reaper.

Thats right ladies and gents, reaper can be considered, or I should say IS considered a staple in most decks.

I however, believe this card can be splashed into just about ANY deck. I mean lets look at the raw stats 300/200, not very impressive, as it being a dark monster searchable with LP Damage discrd thats something to think about, but not so impressive as Don Zaloog would seem better, HOWEVER, Reaper is impervious to most attacks with the exception of Drillroid, MSLV2 and Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke. As it cannot be destroyed in battle, this card could be the stall card you need to bust into your extreeme monarch's for the win! Hold the Phone! Not everything about this card is good, every good card, has a weakness, and alas, this card will die upon being targeted by a spell/trap/monster effect. This is both a good and bad effect. If its your only monster and your opponent decides to snatch it, it dies, this being good since they wont be able to cause direct damage with it but bad as they could use it to get to your LPs. It truely is the ultimate Swarm Stopper in this format.

Now, from personal experience, Spirit Reaper is 1 card that has always been a pain in my left side. I mean seriously, I never had one, and begain to deck 2 Drillroids/Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke until I got one for myself. (this truely was a good idea). Up until I finally got one, I despised the card until I found out how useful he really is! This card has saved me in many many situations.

This card truely is useful, it's easily splashed into a variety of decks, Zombies, All varients of Chaos, CC, really. It's worthy enough to be limited or semi limited but not banned. Well thats my COTW Review.

-Peace!

-Yeah, BlackwindX signing off!

(Man I'm cool )

Reaper gets 4/5.
