Current Research:
map design, color theory applications in cartography, multi-scale and multi-representation cartography, hypothesis generation in visualization, choropleth classification for maps in series, atlas mapping, topographic map design.

Census Atlas of the United States is the first comprehensive atlas of population and housing produced by the Census Bureau since the 1920s. Trudy Suchan is first author and project leader, and I'm included in the author set. Chapters in PDF for the large-format publication (300 pages, 800 maps) are online and the atlas is now for sale.

ScaleMaster resources include articles, poster, and a do-it-yourself Excel file available for download. ScaleMaster is a structured diagram for organizing multi-scale mapping using multiple databases and design, selection, and generalization decisions.

ColorBrewer: web tool for selecting map color schemes
Instructions for using ColorBrewer and update information are online.
