- AREAS OF RESEARCH AND INTEREST -
- The Spanish Golden Age Novel, specifically Don Quijote and the Picaresque tradition. The presence and process of education in both the Golden Age and Postwar Novel. The relationship of memory and imagination in the novel. Thematic studies on the work of Miguel Delibes.
- Spanish Golden Age Poetry (Garcilaso de la Vega, Fray Luis de Leon, San Juan de la Cruz, Góngora, and Quevedo) and Theater (Lope de Vega and Calderon de la Barca). Thematic studies on imagination, memory, identity, and courtly love. The Sublime in the poetry and writing of Gustavo Adolfo Becquer.
- Literary theory and Criticism (especially Mikhail Bakhtin, Russian Formalism, Marxism, cultural studies, and semiotics).
- The Poetic theory of Antonio Machado. Manuel Machado and the ekphrastic principle. Galdos’ demythification of the bourgeois and rural ideologies. Galdos and theater. The postwar theater. The relationship between literature and the visual arts.

* Coloquio Iberoamericano at The Pennsylvania State University Fall 2007

Description: The Coloquio Iberoamericano celebrated its third annual graduate symposium on Hispanic
Literature on Saturday, October 20th, 2007. This Hispanic Literature graduate student
symposium is “meant to enhance the importance of Hispanic Studies at Penn State and
propitiate a multi-cultural exchange and bring together all components of the academic
world”. I co-moderated a panel titled “El género del desencanto: memoria, sujeto e
identidad en el siglo XX español”.
University Service and Collegiate Activities at The University of Dallas:
* The Orpheion Society Spring 2005-Spring 2006
President
Description: The Orpheion Society (a collegiate club) puts on plays, readings, and symposia
for the benefit and enrichment of the University of Dallas Student Body and
Faculty. As President I assisted in the programming of events; acted as liaison
between the club and our faculty advisor, as well as with the University of Dallas Student
Government. I also headed internal meetings of the Club.
