Brandon Schmoyer
Sophomore, Business Administration
The Pennsylvania State University, Lehigh Valley, PA

First and foremost, I intend to familiarize myself with NVU and website editing.  I plan on transferring to Penn State University Park for the Fall 2007 semester and finishing my degree in business administration.  After the completion of my bachelors degree I hope to work in a managerial position in retail.  And of course, like most other business majors, I would ultimately like to own and operate my own business.

Geography 121 Projects

Project 1: Plotting Coordinates & Map Projections

In Project 1 I learned the "ins and outs" of coordinate systems and map projections. Geographic, UTM, and SPC Coordinate Systems each have their own "optimization".  This also holds true for map projections.  Certain map projections satisfy certain applications better than others.

Project 2: Mapping Census Data

In Project 2 I learned how to correctly create and read Reference and Thematic Maps.  I also learned how both Quantile and Equal Interval Classifications display features differently.  The best way to determine conclusive patterns is to compare both classifications.

Project 3: Acquiring Geographic Data

In Project 3 I learned the basics of Sonar and the specifics of Side Scan Sonar and Multibeam Sonar Systems. With my newfound knowledge of Sonar applied I was able to evaluate both systems and determine which was best suited for a certain application.
