Iowa has received four [4] number one votes in the USA Today poll.

Did you actually get a degree from Iowa? Mike told me that you spent the better part of a decade there, and I seem to recall that he mentioned you receiving a degree in psychology or some other sort of soft area of study. Regardless of your particular academic focus, I'm left to wonder what sort of institution of higher learning admits (let alone grants a degree to) someone with such poor reading comprehension skills. The numeral 4 next to Iowa in the USA Today poll does not correspond to 4 votes for Iowa to be #1. That 4 is simply the total number of "points" that Iowa received in the poll. I really don't have the time to explain how the poll works, but in a nut shell votes for a team to be ranked at a given position are translated into points with more points being given out for a vote to be #1 than for a vote to be #25. So rather than there being 4 fools crazy enough to think that Iowa is #1, there is a small number (perhaps only 1) of coaches that think that Iowa belongs in the top 25. The number of first-place votes is given in parentheses following the name of the team, if any first-place votes were received. Note the (1) following the Ohio State, which indicates that the OSU received 1 first-place vote. This is clearly a finer point of the poll and one that you do not really need to pay attention to since Iowa will almost assuredly never receive any first-place votes this season.

Hey, hey, HEY! I most certainly did graduate from THE University of Iowa. If Mike says that I studied the social sciences, he is probably right, I do not recall attending classes that vividly. What I do remember are the life lessons learned. Such as ... do not step all over somebody's dream. Sure ... I thought it was a little far fetched that Iowa would receive more than two or three number one votes but I wanted to believe. I called USA Today to determine the method behind their madness but all I came away with was a two-year subscription. Great publication - really nifty graphs! Please note that I [per MLA citation guidelines] underlined the title of the newspaper.* I do remember taking Rhetoric. Please feel free to contact me directly if you need any additional help with your writing. You are doing well - do not give up. In conclusion - I find parentheses to be vulgar. Please refrain from utilizing or referencing them in future posts.

* You may have noticed that I did not - in fact - underline the text as advertised. I tried ... but my Tech Support is currently experiencing unusually high call volume. I realize that this admission will undoubtedly provoke continued sophomoric jabs from the peanut gallery. I also understand the irony and hypocrisy of condemning immature put-downs a mere five sentences after drawing attention to Amy's obvious learning disability. As such, in advance I reply ... GO HAWKS!
